About Me

day_off_006-polaMy name is Genevieve, which in my opinion, is one of the prettiest names in the world. Unfortnately, 80% of all people can neither spell it or say it. I am used to the butchering and tell most people to call me Gen.

I am 26 but most people think I am 5 years younger. I can’t decide if I look young or act it.

I work as a skincare therapist…except I also do waxings, body wraps & scrubs, and makeup. It’s a job I love more often than not and always makes for good stories. One day I’ll write a David Sedaris-esque book about all of my adventures called “adventures of a professional pimple popper”.

I like: lists, running outside (I completed my first half marathon in April), reading before bed, spin classes, coffee when I first wake up, avocados, girly folky music, anything with houndstooth pattern, mangos, Asics, Polaroid photos, b&w photography, necklaces, making big plans (and sometimes completing them), ballets flats, and being around the people I adore.

I don’t like a lot of things but most of them don’t matter.

I am the proud mom to a slightly neurotic but mostly lazy mini-dachshund named Roxy.

I got her as a gift when I was 21 and she has been my bestest friend ever since. She never fails to make me smile and laugh. She is freakishly smart and kind of a wonder puppy as she is 100% recovered and healthy from major back surgery.

On New Years Eve 2008 I found a tiny tailess kitty abandoned in the stairwell of my apartment building. I meant to take her to the animal shelter…but it never happened.

Stubbs is the fattest (this picture doesnt show her at her current hefty weight of 12 lbs) weirdest, and sweetest kitty I know. She loves to be around you, snuggle with you, play fetch with her mousie, and hop at high speeds.

They are (obviously) the greatest animals in the world and fill my heart with happiness. Except when they are bad…but I get over it pretty quick.

I am in love with my dream boy. You can find himĀ here.

The title of my blog is based of one of my favorite The Weepies songs, Slow Pony Home.

The lyrics go a little something like this…

“Setting free the anchor and looking past the shore
It’s a sea of horses on ships with no sails, no motors, no oars

Now we’re cleaning the windows between us two
Funny, you do it once, and then again, and pretty soon
the fingerprints and dust…
But I’ve begun to trust the view here.”

I love the lyrics, I feel like its a song about letting your boat sail and just letting it be free with no need for “sails, motors” or “oars”. And learning to trust yourself.
